Square Dancing in the Motor City in 2011
Having Fun in the Handicapable Hall at the 60th U.S. National Square Dance Convention

Everyone had a great time in Detroit for the 60th National  Square Dance Convention!!  Louis and Nancy Friedlander and their Committee pulled out all of the stops for a wonderful convention. 

The Handicapable Hall was a hopping place to be!  The dancers had a great imte dancing to great callers!  They danced everything from line dances to a Virginia Reel.  Ken Ritucci was kind enough to give each dancer a "Black Book" and the dancers had a wonderful time getting all of the callers' signatures.  The callers  were from all over the country as well as from England!  Everyone enjoyed it when more people came to dance with us and share our enthusiam and love of square dancing!

The Hunterdon Stars and Mercer ArcAngels were asked to perform for the Opening Ceremonies of the convention.  They opened the convention with an enthusiastic performance!

Detroit is the home of Henry Ford, as many of you know.  At the Henry Ford Museum, many had the chance to see the Imancipation Proclamation!  The lines were very long, but many took advantage of the historic chance to see a piece of history.

Smokin Up The Dance Floor in Gatlinburg, TN in 2010
12th Annual U.S. Handicapable Square Dance Convention

Everyone was "Smokin Up The Dance Floor" in Gatlinburg, TN at the 12th U.S. Handicapable Square Dance Convention!!  We had approximately 260 people who enjoyed dancing, music, fun and friendship!  The convention opened August 5th with a delicious banquet and entertainment from the "True Blue Band".  Everyone was dancing and singing along with the band!  There were 9 clubs in attendance from the following states: Ohio, Kentucky, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, New Jersey and Lousiana.  Everyone did a wonderful job with their club exhibitions!  Everyone strutted their stuff!  We danced in jail and got the "Jailbird" dangle. We danced in our pajamas!  It was a beautiful view at the Park Vista Hotel.  Many clubs toured downtown Gatlinburg as well as Dollywood and Pigeon Forge.  Tom and Miriam James, the USDA Handicapable Representatives joined us for the fun also!  A great time was had by all!!

Hello Everyone!! We’d like to welcome you to the U.S. Handicapable Website. We are very happy you found us! Please feel free to check out the site, find out who we are, who our dancers are, and even see if you can find a club near your hometown. We would love for you to come dance with us!

In case you have never met a dancer who is Handicapable, let me introduce one to you: 
 
 “My name is Kathy. I love square dancing! I love Nascar too!”
 
There!! That says it all - We all love dancing.
 
Handicapable Dancers are dancers who may have developmental disabilities, may have autism, may have cerebral palsy or any other disability. Handicapable Square Dancers may be dancers in wheelchairs who do not have any developmental disabilities. These wonderful dancers love square dancing as much as we do, they just may need a little more time to dance the steps. Don’t get me wrong! Handicapable Square Dancers have MANY abilities!! There are dancers who can dance Basic, Mainstream, Plus, Advance and even Challenge! 
 
We are always looking for more Handicapable Square Dance Groups that we do not have contact information for. If you are aware of any clubs out there, or would like to start a group, feel free to contact us.
